In an early Q&A for a 2015 prospect who’s been blowing up on the recruiting scene, I spoke with the 6-2 200-pound sophomore RB Jacques Patrick out of Timber Creek High School (Orlando, FL). According to 247sports.com, Jacques recorded 2100 rushing yards for 31 rushing touchdowns and had 2 receptions for 107 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns in his sophomore season. Although it’s too early in the recruiting process to be rated by recruiting websites, Jacques holds a ridiculously impressive offer list, including offers from Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Arizona, Auburn, Clemson, LSU, Mississippi State, Tennessee, UCF, USC, and Vanderbilt. Get an early look at the stud sophomore running back and potential Buckeye here:
ZC: How’d your sophomore season at Timber Creek go?
JP: We went 10-2 and lost in the 2nd round to the eventual state champs. I had 2100 rushing yards and 31 touchdowns.
ZC: What’s your favorite part about playing running back? Do you ever play any defense for Timber Creek?
JP: I like scoring in big moments. In the 4th quarter, in a tight game, I love getting my team the victory. No, I don’t play any defense.
ZC: You’re projected as an athlete or running back on most recruiting websites. What part of your game do you need to work on the most? What is your biggest strength?
JP: I’d like to work more on my breakaway speed and create even more separation between the defender and myself. I’d say my biggest strength is my vision. It’s important because once I get past the safeties, I’ll most likely score.
ZC: Let’s get into your recruitment now. What are the main schools recruiting you currently? Which coaching staffs do you have the best relationships with?
JP: All of the schools (Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Arizona, Auburn, Clemson, LSU, Mississippi State, Tennessee, UCF, USC, Vanderbilt, Texas, Louisville) are recruiting me pretty evenly. If I had to say which one was recruiting me the hardest, I’d probably say Florida State. I’d say I have the best relationship with Florida State’s staff.
ZC: What do you like about Ohio State?
JP: I love coach Urban Meyer. I love how they had the undefeated season even without being eligible for the national championship. I like how they worked hard no matter what.
ZC: Recruiting services list Coach [Stan] Drayton as the coach recruiting you from Ohio State. Is that true, how often do you speak, and who else do you speak with?
JP: Yeah that’s true. We actually spoke last week. It’s just Coach [Stan] Drayton who I speak with on the Ohio State staff.
ZC: Are they recruiting you for the running back position or some other position in their offense? What do you guys talk about?
JP: They are recruiting me for the running back position. I know some site list me as an athlete, but I’m a running back. Coach Drayton tells me how much they’d like to have me up there, and how they want me to come up there for a visit.
ZC: Do you play any other sports in high school? What position do you play and what’s your favorite part about playing basketball?
JP: Yeah, basketball. I play the 3 or 4 position. I really like playing each and every night with basketball.
ZC: I know it’s early in the recruiting process for you, but have you visited any colleges yet? What was your favorite?
JP: Yeah, I’ve visited Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Central Florida. My favorite was probably Florida State for the spring game.
ZC: How do you deal with the pressure of the recruiting process and being such a highly touted recruit early in the process?
JP: I talk to my coaches and family a lot and try not to think too much and get overwhelmed. My family and coaches keep my in check.
ZC: Did you get a chance to watch the Buckeyes this past year? Which players did you like watching the best?
JP: Yeah. Definitely Braxton [Miller].
ZC: Who’s the best high school player you’ve played against or with?
JP: A safety on my team named Chris Board.
ZC: Do you plan on attending any summer camps or Ohio State games in the upcoming two years?
JP: I’m not sure, I’ll have to see the camp season schedule.
Role Models: My grandpa, my mom, and my coaches.
Best Subject in School: Math.
Hobbies: Football, hanging with friends, and basketball.
Movies: The Blind Side.
TV Shows: Sportscenter.
Favorite Sports Teams: For the NFL, I like the Patriots.
