In what Steve Wiltfong from 247Sports.com says is the most shocking commitment he may have ever seen, 2014 athlete Damon Webb has given Ohio State a verbal commitment. After an unofficial visit to Ohio State this past weekend, the Detroit native Webb decided that he was destined to be an Ohio State Buckeye. A 4-star junior prospect right now, Webb has played the cornerback position at Cass Tech High School to the “lockdown” standard that Ohio State defensive backs have been so accustomed to.Damon Webb Highlights
Webb was a part of the Ohio State “Friday Night Lights” recruiting camp in Columbus, and was regarded as one of the most outstanding prospects there. Offered by the Buckeyes and Michigan on the same day, it would seem as if Webb’s Michigan roots would help him to decide between Michigan State and Michigan, rather than the Buckeyes. Urban Meyer, the recruiting genius that he is, obviously pulled him towards Ohio State.
In addition to Meyer, cornerbacks coach Kerry Coombs clearly made an impression on the young Webb, visiting his Cass Tech High School once every month to check in on Webb and maintain the interest.
The second player in the 2014 recruiting class for the Buckeyes, Webb is an extremely intriguing prospect. With offensive guard Marcelys Jones already on board for 2014, it seems as if the next crop of Buckeye recruits for Coach Meyer will be just as good, if not better, for the Buckeyes.
