Storm Trooper, DeShaun Power Buckeyes Past Badgers

Storm Trooper

On the first night that I was able to take the Buckeye Storm Trooper fathead for a whirl, the Buckeyes got a win against the pesky Badgers in Columbus. The miraculous tale of the how I got that Storm Trooper into the Schott is the stuff of legends, but what’s most important was that the Buckeyes got a much needed W.

Bo Ryan has made quite the name for himself in Columbus, after an incident involving spit, a press conference, and “deal with it”. A win against Mr. Ryan is always most satisfying. Apparently tonight, after the game, Bo was his usual classy self, refusing to do a post-game press conference in the interview room and instead doing them outside of the visitor’s locker room. This wouldn’t be such an issue, except for the fact that it interrupted the Ohio State press conferences. Aaron Craft was even quoted as saying, “is this real life?”

Anyhow, the Buckeyes edged out a squeaker, playing solid basketball in the middle of the second half in order to get a W. DeShaun Thomas took charge of the offense, yet again, scoring 25 points on 10-17 shooting, and never left the floor. The Buckeyes dependence on Thomas is something they are obviously not going to grow out of, and are instead going to have to rely heavily on their defensive effort, something Aaron Craft will surely help to do.

In the early going, with seemingly no ability to score the basketball, Thomas scored the first 6 points and kept the Ohio State in the game. The Buckeyes clawed their way back, and were able to get the defecit to just two before halftime.

In the second half, things seemed to be going at the incredibly slow pace the Badgers are accustomed to, until about the 12:45 mark. It was then that the Buckeyes started a 14-0 run, starting at 41-37 Wisky and ending at 52-41 in favor of the good guys. During this time, DeShaun continued his dominance, Aaron Craft started to get more involved, Lenzelle Smith and LaQuinton Ross put points on the board, and even Amir Williams slammed one home in the midst of an atrocious outing. The Badgers slow pace couldn’t catch up in the last few minutes, and at times it didn’t even look like they were going to try.

Ohio State matched up well against Wisky, as they love to slow down the pace allowing Ohio State to set up defensively. Ohio State dominated the Badgers in the half court. Craft was stellar as usual, and anchored the defensive effort. Wisconsin, especially in the second half, was barely able to find a good look and often took a well defended three that probably went in more times than it should have. This was the type of defensive effort that the Buckeyes are going to need in the future if they want to beat better opponents.

A quality W made even sweeter by an ESPN appearance from the Buckeye Empire Storm Trooper, tonight’s game was a big one for the Buckeyes. Wisconsin has a bad habit of beating ranked teams, and it looked as if that was going to be the case again tonight. DeShaun and the defense heated up at just the right time and the Buckeyes were able to get a solid win. At the end of the day, Bo Ryan and the Badgers are just going to have to deal with it.

PS: Look for the Storm Trooper Fat Head to make it’s next appearance on February 10th against the Indiana Hoosiers!

If the Buckeyes would have been more Storm Trooper'ish in 1st half, it would have been a more fun game to watch.
