Late last night (Friday morning in Russia) a meteorite exploded in the sky over Chelyabinsk.  Videos of the Russian meteorite surfaced quickly, with over 100 injured from the resulting blast.  I happen to be a huge nerd and watch “Meteorite Men” on the Science Channel frequently, so I know that all the shards are extremely expensive.  The people who have damage to their homes or injuries should actually be rummaging around finding those pieces, as those are worth even more, especially if the damaged material is sold along side the meteorite.  Here are a couple videos of the meteorite itself, via Buzzfeed and YouTube.

UPDATE: Russian Ministry says more than 400 people injured.  I retract my “rummaging around” statement as that’s some serious stuff right there.

This one has a LOUD blast in it, whether it’s added or not is up in the air, but I’d turn your speakers down.

I think this is the best view.

These kids, in what appears to be a typical Russian playground, don’t even know what happened.

That is some serious stuff, indeed, Ryan. I guess when we have an event (UM @ ND, for example) and 'har, har' hoping for a meteor strike, we need to rethink it?

Yep, have never seen one that did actual damage like this. Pretty nuts to think about
