I said it once and I’ll say it again, I LOVE MARCH MADNESS. This is the best time of the year, the grand daddy of all sporting events. Where else can you get last second buzzer beaters from David knocking out Goliath? No where that’s where! People fill out brackets everywhere, and all sorts of people fill them out casual fans, die hards (me) and girls who want to be in the mix. I have to be completely honest when paying money for brackets I can’t be in a league with women, Sorry Ladies it’s just the fact that most of you pick a team based on mascots or buy their colors. When you know close to nothing about the sport, this is not all women but most. One year a girl picked Butler to win it all because she liked Bulldogs, Butler went on to play Duke in the National Title game that year and she won tthe brackets.
This weekend calls for some of the best action and most excitement of the majority of the tournament. Like last night, Davidson was seconds away from pulling the upset over Marquette, which made yours truly sweat more than the Golden Eagles. But Vander Blue saved Marquette and my bracket in the Buckeye Empire pool. Everyone loves the upsets accept those that get upset like the guy below:
That means that our Buckeyes need to keep their heads in the game and continue the hot streak. I don’t want them to be this year’s Duke and lose to a 15 seed. The Buckeyes take on the Gaels of Iona at 7:15 on CBS, for those of you who can’t get to a TV it will also be online and you can watch it on your phone with the NCAA March Madness App. The Buckeyes are looking to get their second win in Dayton Arena under Coach Thad Matta they are just 1-2 in this arena. So hopefully history will not repeat itself.
The Buckeyes should still be carrying the momentum for that great Big Ten Tournament Championship run. After beating Nebraska, Michigan State and Wisconsin the Bucks should have a lot of confidence going forward into the game this evening. I have to be honest I don’t know much about Iona but I do know that a Gael is someone of Irish-Gaelic ancestry, that has to count for something right? That being said the Buckeyes will need a few things to get the victory.
Mully’s Keys to VICTORY!
Craft-tastic Defense: The Buckeyes need to keep up their defensive intensity that helped them bring home that B1G Tournament Championship, and that starts with B1G Tourney MVP Aaron Craft. He played outstanding and he led us on that great run and he needs to keep that pace up.
Be Aggressive: Don’t relax on defense or on offense the guys need to keep attacking all game long. Once you let up is when you let them back in the game, you need to be the aggressor and set the tone. Being aggressive leads to teams turning the ball over and taking bad shots which plays into our game.
Stay Focused: DO NOT get caught looking ahead to the next round, because doing that will lead to an upset and a long ride back to Columbus and we do not want to see that.
I don’t see the Buckeyes losing this game, but I also didn’t see New Mexico losing to Harvard. This team is just too talented for Iona and our defense is just too good. If the Buckeyes win they will take on the winner of Notre Dame/Iowa State on Sunday.
I know this was shorter than normal, but I am taking my own advice and not looking ahead to the next game and neither should you Buckeye Nation!
