For the first time in Buckeye Empire’s Helmet Sticker series, there was some serious parity on both the offensive and defensive ends of the spectrum.
In the two previous weeks, offensive candidates have been strictly one-sided. In each case, Jordan Hall and Kenny Guiton won the vote unanimously and each have an offensive helmet sticker to their name.
The brilliant offensive performance against Cal, however, proved to stop that trend as Kenny G and Hall garnered votes for the offensive helmet sticker.
Hall looked to be back in week one form on Saturday, as he put together his best performance of the season against the Golden Bears.
On 30 carries, Hall amassed 168 yards and three touchdowns giving him 402 yards and six touchdowns in just three games thus far this season.
Kenny Guiton, however, was just as brilliant as his backfield brother.
Piggy-backing his last performance against San Diego State, Guiton completed 21 of 32 passes for 276 yards and four touchdowns.
His day started in historic fashion, as his first two passes were completed for touchdowns and 137 yards but slowed down as the game went on and the Buckeyes turned to the ground game.
Overall, Guiton has been brilliant in every game this season, throwing for 449 total yards and a touchdown in each game- seven overall- while running for 181 yards on 24 carries in the same span.
Offensive Helmet Sticker: Kenny Guiton, quarterback
With his 368 total yards and four touchdowns against Cal, it was Guiton who earned his second offensive Helmet Sticker of the young season for the Buckeyes.
While the offensive Helmet Sticker was more divided than ever before, the defensive Helmet Sticker was certainly more unanimous than its been this year.
Once again, however, Ryan Shazier and Christian Bryant received votes, but at the end of the day it was the biggest “bear” of them all that took home the hardware.
The man who calls himself “@JBBigBear” on Twitter brought home the sticker against none other than the Golden Bears of California.
That man is none other than freshman defensive end, Joey Bosa.
Bosa, a Fort Lauderdale, Florida native, has been a huge spark for this rebuilding defensive line and has made a tremendous impact in limited playing time this season.
His impact on Saturday, however, was felt more so than any other this season.
Bosa put together a sack and multiple hurries while hearing his name called consistently through the speakers of California Memorial Stadium.
Constantly in the Cal backfield, bull-rushing fellow freshman and Cal QB Jared Goff, Bosa is helping Buckeye Nation to quickly forget about the loss of John Simon and Nathan Williams, amongst other former Buckeye pass rushers.
In back-to-back weeks, lesser known Buckeyes have taken home the defensive stickers, all while proving Urban Meyer’s worth as a recruiter and the depth of this previously untested defensive line.
